Authentic Cinema Room

THE BRIEF

Our brief was to design and create an immersive cinema experience at home, with crystal clear sound and picture quality, and the look and feel of a real cinema. Our clients wanted their existing dining room transformed, conjuring up the atmosphere of a trip to the movies from the comfort of their own (reclining!) armchairs. We were asked to help design the recessed wall (where the projector screen is located) so that it could encompass a fireplace, inbuilt speakers and a retractable projector screen. The screen needed to provide stunning image quality, whilst also being acoustically transparent so as not to detract from the audio.

SET UP

To create the full cinema experience, we installed a 10.5’ acoustically transparent Screen Research projector screen, complimented by five 65-50 Artcoustic speakers with custom prints. We also used two Artcoustic Impact-1 SL subwoofers, which are recessed into the wall along with the three front speakers. The wall also houses a flush mounted fireplace. We used a Sony 4K projector for exceptional image clarity, and installed an Xbox One which can be played on the projector screen for a truly immersive experience. Viewing sources are provided by a SKY box and Blu-Ray player, along with the usual streaming services. This additional equipment is housed in a central location, leaving the cinema room as sleek and streamlined as possible. We were responsible for the design concept, providing all the CAD drawings for the recessed wall, choosing the equipment, advising on décor and choosing all the custom prints for the Artcoustic speakers.
